Hugh Laurie’s Life Before House Came on the Air

Hugh Laurie was born in Oxford, UK on June 11th 1959 and is the youngest of four children. Before ‘House M.D.’ Laurie was a prominent comedic actor in the UK, and he is also a musician, author, voice artist and comedian. He wrote and appeared in several TV series and shot to fame with fellow actor Stephen Fry on the comedy show ‘Fry & Laurie’. He also joined Fry on the cast of ‘Blackadder’, which is a popular comedy in the UK, and from 1987 to 1999 they also starred together in ‘Jeeves & Wooster’.

Laurie has appeared in many movies including his starring role in the film adaptation of Ben Elton’s novel ‘Inconceivable’, the movie was titled ‘Maybe Baby’ and is a moving story about a couple’s attempts to conceive a child. He also appeared in ‘Sense & Sensibility’, ’101 Dalmatians’ and ‘Stuart Little’ to name just a few.

Shortly before starring in the lead role of ‘House M.D.’ Laurie appeared in many British TV dramas such as ‘Spooks’ and comedy-drama ‘Fortysomething’, which he also directed. It wasn’t until 2004 that he became a well-known and acclaimed actor in the USA due to his portrayal of Dr. Gregory House.
