Hugh Laurie’s Views on the Medical World
Hough Laurie plays the main doctor character on the show famously knowing as House. As the character Dr. House, Hough portrays a physician who will do what it take, even break the ethical laws of medicine, to get the job done and save a life. Sometimes it is hard to tell whether his dedication is for the sake of boosting his pride or for the sake of the patient. Either way, his brilliance, wit and willingness to break the rules, always saves the day. But what does the real Hough Laurie think of the medical world and its practices?
In several interviews the actor shows an on the fence or double sided views on his own character and the ways medicine is practiced in the real world. He supports his characters actions in many cases stating that sometimes breaking the rules and stepping over boundaries of how things “should be done” is the right way to go if it means bettering or saving a life. Of course, he has no complaints about medical practices as they are today except to say that sometimes you have to try something new, think outside of the box and test new theories in order to advance the common knowledge of medicine.
