Fortysomething

Hugh returned to ITV and to TV comedy with Fortysomething, a comedy-drama in which he plays a suburban GP coping with a mid-life crisis. Anna Chancellor plays his wife. The series premiered on June 29. It was adapted by Nigel Williamson from his novel of the same name. Stephen Fry has a cameo as a fishmonger, making this the first time Fry and Laurie have done TV comedy together since the last series of A Bit of Fry & Laurie in 1995. Hugh also took on director's duties for the first three episodes when two directors left the project over artistic differences.
